The goal of this run was to get some elevation training in. I headed south of where we were staying down to the Wailea area. There, I was able to run up some hills from the coastal area to the Pialani highway. It offered a 230 ft. elevation gain over a mile of the course. As my first run on the relay will have significant elevation gain, I took the opportunity to start training for it.
My first day on vacation and I’m still going to be training. For this first run, I decided to go from the Maui Bayan, where we were staying, and run up to central Kihei. This was 4.3 miles each way. The run has wonderful views of beaches, the ocean, Molokini, Molokai, and the west Maui mountains. Couldn’t think of a better way to begin here.
On Thursday, I did a short run as I was heading on vacation the next day and didn’t want my legs to stiffen up while on the 5 hour flight.
On March 12 I completed 3 miles on the treadmill, and on March 13 I completed 4 miles on the treadmill at the gym.
This was my first long run for training. I was on the Esplanade Trail that I regularly run. It is part of the Tustin Branch Trail and this part 1.5 miles in length, a round trip would be 3 miles. So ran it twice, as can be seen on elevation map.
